Journal 6 Revised- Want to Save Money

Journal 6: Want to Save Money?!?
Freak Show & Tell: Extreme Couponing, Severe Scrapbooking

The first time I ever saw the show Extreme Couponing on TLC I wondered what it was about. The first time I watched it I could not believe my eyes. Someone could buy two huge carts full of food and pay thirteen cents for it all. This article/video is about Rudy and she is a serious coupon enthusiast. Rudy estimates all her "stuff" worth around 3,500 and paid roughly $200. Rudy has to take a picture of all her grocery hauls every time she goes to the grocery store so she can remember how much stuff she got for a little price. Rudy says, "I will never stop Couponing!!"

I personally think couponing is a great idea, but I don't think I could ever go to the extreme. The reason I don’t think I could go to the extreme, because I don’t know where to start. However, if  there is a coupon in a grocery ad and it's something I need I will use the coupon, but to take the time to find different coupons online for the things you needs sounds way to time consuming for a college student. Also, whenever I get coupons in the mail for my favorite clothing stores I will go online and look to see if there is anything I need, but if there isn't anything I need I will ask one of my friends if they have a use for the coupon. Instead of using coupons I like what Kmart and Walgreen's do with their rewards card. Kmart and Walgreen have in store deals and if you present your rewards card you automatically get the deal. I feel like this is a lot less time consuming and also is saving paper because you don’t have to run the ads with all the different coupons.

Journal 3 Revised- What Can Scary Movies Do For Your Body?

Journal 3: What Can Scary Movies Do For Your Body?
"You can lose weight by watching horror movies, according to scientists researching how to appear in Halloween trend stories"
Written by: Sean O'Neal
According to this article science finally decided to be cool for once by declaring that watching horror films is a relatively effective way to lose weight, especially if you're going to ignore all other science and just sit there. At the University of Westminster researchers recently announced the conclusions of their very methodical Halloween trend piece. They revealed that watching 90 minutes of scary things can help you burn more than 100 calories, which is nearly the same amount you would with a half-hour walk. The logic behind losing weight from scary movies is that horror films cause an increase in heart rates and a burst of appetite-reducing, metabolic rate-boosting adrenaline, enabling a person to burn off more calories they are not completely jaded and desensitized.
I picked this article because as soon as I read the title I was interested to see what it was about, because I did not believe it. After reading the article though I now see the relation on how scary movies can help you lose weight. For example when I watch scary movies my heart rate always increases, and a majority of the time I also lose my appetite. These two things are proved ways that people lose weight. Now every time I watch a scary movie and am getting really freaked out I can think to myself on the good side I am burning calories!

Fun Facts: Top 5 Movies to Burn Calories
1. The Shining (184 Calories)
2. Jaws (161 Calories)
3. The Exorcist (158 Calories)
4. Alien (152 Calories)
5. Saw (133 Calories)

Journal 2 Revised- Love + Basketball

Journal 2-
Love + Basketball = Love and Basketball
Ever since the day I could walk I have had a love for the sport of basketball. Shortly after I turned two I got my first basketball and my dad started teaching me how to dribble and shoot a basketball. When I was in kindergarten I could finally sign up to be on a basketball team, so my parents signed me up since I had such a strong interest in basketball.  At a basketball bonding party when I was in sixth grade one of my teammates brought over the movie Love and Basketball directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Love and Basketball became my favorite movie after I had watched it at the bonding party and it still is my favorite movie to this day.
The movie Love and Basketball takes place in L.A. where Monica moves in next door to Quincy. At the time they are both 11, and want to play in the NBA, just like Quincy's dad. Monica and Quincy have a love-hate relationship lasts into high school. As high school ends, they come together as a couple, but within a year, with both of them playing ball at USC, Quincy's relationship with his father takes an ugly turn, and it leads to a break up with Monica.
I believe that this is a very good movie, because there is a nice laid out story line and the actors do a very nice job of fulfilling the characters. For example, Sanna Lathan does a wonderful job or being Monica and Omar Epps hits the spot of being Quincy. As far as the story line goes I think this movie emphasizes something important that not many people do. That is to “Follow your dreams.”  Another thing that makes this movie my favorite movie is that there is a lot of information you can learn about the game of basketball, because there is a ton of scenes where they are actually playing basketball.
