"You can lose weight by watching horror movies, according to scientists researching how to appear in Halloween trend stories"
Written by: Sean O'Neal
According to this article science finally decided to be cool for once by declaring that watching horror films is a relatively effective way to lose weight, especially if you're going to ignore all other science and just sit there. At the University of Westminster researchers recently announced the conclusions of their very methodical Halloween trend piece. They revealed that watching 90 minutes of scary things can help you burn more than 100 calories, which is nearly the same amount you would with a half-hour walk. The logic behind losing weight from scary movies is that horror films cause an increase in heart rates and a burst of appetite-reducing, metabolic rate-boosting adrenaline, enabling a person to burn off more calories they are not completely jaded and desensitized.
I picked this article because as soon as I read the title I was interested to see what it was about, because I did not believe it. After reading the article though I now see the relation on how scary movies can help you lose weight. For example when I watch scary movies my heart rate always increases, and a majority of the time I also lose my appetite. These two things are proved ways that people loose weight. Now every time I watch a scary movie and am getting really freaked out I can think to myself on the good side I am burning calories! http://www.avclub.com/articles/you-can-lose-weight-by-watching-horror-movies-acco,88124/

3. The Exorcist (158 Calories)

5. Saw (133 Calories)
This is super cool! Although I am not a scary movie fan, it makes me want to be. One of the big reasons I don't watch this genre of films is because I get so freaked out that I'm super on edge for days. This idea totally makes since because my heart rate is always racing in these situations. Its interesting the somebody actually did research to prove this idea that now rally makes sense.
ReplyDeleteGreat find! Sounds like a very interesting article and really cool discovery. I can totally see how that would work though!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting article that you found. At first when I started reading your post I thought it was false information, not going to lie. But, after I think about it, it makes more sense. I do not like scary movies one bit because I get so freaked out and am constantly jumping, my heart rate increases for sure, and just like you I lose my appetite.
ReplyDeleteSo, I guess I need to start watching scary movies more! Haha.
