Journal 1: Response to Winning actually isn’t the only thing

The article "Winning actually isn't the only thing" written by David Maraniss is about the Monday night football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks. In this article Maraniss bring us Packers legendary coach Vince Lombardi, who didn't believe that winning was the only thing that mattered. Maraniss didn't agree with the football call Monday night at the end of the game he know that nothing can be done about it, since the game is done and over with. He did however, mention how he was so upset and it took him hours to calm down. In the end Maraniss thought about Russell Wilson (Seahawks Quarterback  and Pete Carroll (Seahawks Head coach), and how they reacted after the game especially what they said during their interviews. When the call was made Carroll was running and jumping around in excitement, but in his interview he said it was a "tough call." Maraniss leaves us with saying that they shouldn't act like they won and be all happy and excited about the call and that he would rather have a bad call called on his team and deal with it, then have the call be in your favor.

I agree with his position that winning is not everything 100%. As being a two sport high school athlete and going for a coaching minor it is important to realize that winning is not everything. Throughout my elementary, middle school, and high school sports my coaches have always stressed that winning is not everything, if we go out and give 110% effort that is all they care about. I also agree with David Maraniss saying that Carroll and Wilson and the Seahawks don’t have to pretend that the call was right and that they deserved the win. Even Seahawks fans say that was the WORST call in NFL history so, even though the score at the end of the game was in favor of the Seahawks, I along with just about everyone else in the world do not think that the win was earned in anyway.

  1. I agree with how I would rather have a bad call on my team and deal with it rather than it be a bad call in my favor. I also agree with you about how winning is not everything, and how as long as you give your best effort there is not much more to do.

  2. I agree that the Seahawks shouldn't pretend that they won that game when I'm sure none of them believe that themselves. I agree that winning isn't "everything" but it's certainly important. Cause even if you do give 110% and lose then its all for nothing.
